Additional Info to “What I ate today” post

If you are following my post "What I ate today - Real Food inspirations from (my) Real Life, you might have noticed that there are some recurring items and asked yourself what exactly those foods are, why I eat them and where to find them.

  1. Deep Sea water: I have a bottle of Biomaris deep sea water sitting next to my bed and every day (or most) I have a sip of it first thing in the morning, followed by a glass of water (the bottle of water is also sitting next to my bed). I do this because the deep sea water helps me balance my electrolytes and adrenal glands, so I better absorb the water I drink. It is a myth that salt is "bad" for you. For some Metabolic Types, especially Fast Oxidizers and Parasympathetic Dominants, high quality sea salt is absolutely crucial for their hormone system and electrolyte balance. People with Adrenal Fatigue tend to have a need to pee a lot. It is like the water they drink just runs through them. Using more salt or doing a sole (or deep sea salt water) cure can help improve that situation. You can make sole by saturating water with Himalayan salt and take a bit of that solution, or you can buy water extracted from deep seas. It is sold in some bio shops. I organize group orders for Biomaris through my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. It is much cheaper than what you find usually in the bio shops and the quality is very pure. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here.
  2. Milk Thistle-Bee Pollen-Tigernuts Mix: Almost every morning I have a mix of 1/2 tablespoon each of milk thistle seeds, bee pollen and tigernuts. Milk thistle seeds are extremely beneficial to support liver health. They even have the capacity to help the body regenerate damaged liver tissue. Before I had a grinder and I used to grind the whole seeds (together with the bee pollen and tigernuts), but it broke down, so now I just chew it all very well... Bee pollen is very rich in vitamins and minerals. And tigernuts... I just add them in to make the whole mixture more tasty (the milk thistle seeds are quite bitter).
  3. Coconut Butter: This is a truly gourmet product and yet so healthy... I just cannot understand that it is so relatively unknown. It is not even sold in Belgium as far as I am aware... It is basically like almond or peanut butter, but made from coconut. So it is NOT the oil, but more like a puree, cream, spread... at least when it is warm... under 28 degrees or so it becomes solid and impossible to spread... but you can still eat the chunks and it's rich, naturally slightly sweet taste absolutely satisfies any cravings you might have... especially if combined with some dark chocolate or a piece of fruit or chestnuts... As I said, this product is not available in Belgium, but I do organize group orders for it through my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here.
  4. Wild Alaskan Salmon and other sustainably fished fish: I buy all my fish frozen from Pintafish, a small Belgian cooperative that puts emphasize on offering only truly sustainably fished fish. I have written about them before here. Since their products are not easily available in Brussels, I organize group orders  through my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here.
  5. 100% grass-fed (self-grazing) meat: I only buy beef from Veeakker (same cooperative as Pintafish). The beef meat they propose stems from Galloway cows that spend all year round grazing natural reserves in Belgium. In winter they might get additional dried grass. You can read all about the benefits of grass-fed meat here. Since their products are not easily available in Brussels, I organize group orders  through my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. 6. Collagen (gelatin): to promote joint, hair, skin and gut health.
  7. Vitamin B complex: I use a METHYLATED B-complex, meaning the B vitamins in their most bioavailable form. Especially B12 and folate have to be methylated for ideal absorption. The product I use is very high dosed, but that seems necessary since especially stress uses up a lot of B-vitamins. Since B-vitamins are water-soluble, any excess gets excreted via the urine. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  8. Vitamin C: I use a product that contains different forms of vitamin C, not just ascorbic acid, but also ascorbyl palmitate, calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate, potassium ascorbate and bioflavonoids. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  9. Magnesium: I use Magnesium Citrate (as powder) or Magnesium glycinate chelate as capsules. Both are included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  10. Omega 3 fish oil: I use a high quality, very pure fish oil for additional omega 3. You can read all about omega 3 here. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  11. Cod Liver Oil: Cod liver oil provides natural vitamin D and A plus some omega 3s. You can read all about vitamin D here and why I recommend this product. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  12. Synergy Com: A multi-vitamin / multi-mineral for Mixed Metabolic Types. Can be combined with other products to adjust for the needs of carbohydrate or protein Metabolic Types. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here
  13. HCL: A digestive support to help digest especially meat and proteins. Read more about who could benefit from such a product here. It is also included in the list of products of my monthly Real Food Group Meetup. If you are interested in joining the group order, join the Meetup group on Facebook here.
