Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of larvae as well as adult queens. A female larva destined to become a queen is fed large quantities of royal jelly. Royal jelly is composed of 67% water, 12.5% protein, 11% simple sugars and 5% fatty acids. It also contains many trace minerals, some enzymes, antibacterial and antibiotic components, vitamin B5, vitamin B6 and trace amounts of vitamin C. As a dietary supplement, it is controversial. Can cause allergies in sensitive people.
